A year with Yardly
Halifax yards need four different jobs a year. Here is what we do in each season, whether you book one visit or the whole year.
Spring cleanup
The ground firms up, the winter mess comes out and the lawn gets its first cut.
- Leaves, branches and sand raked out
- Beds edged, hedges checked
- Aeration and seed if the lawn is thin
Weekly mowing
Same day each week, same crew. Cut, trim, edge, blow off, gates closed.
- 22 visits in a normal season
- Hedges shaped in June and July
- Fertilizer in May, June, August
Fall cleanup
Two visits so the last leaves are gone before the snow, and the lawn goes into winter short.
- Leaves removed, not piled at the curb
- Final cut and beds cut back
- Fall aeration, the best time for it
Snow clearing
Driveway, walkway and front steps cleared after every snowfall of 5 cm or more.
- We start as soon as the snow stops
- Included in the Everything plan
- Or a season contract from $649
How it works
Four steps, and the last one is paying only after the lawn is done.

How we cut lawns in Halifax: height, blades, edges
What happens on every visit, and what you can check yourself from the window. The promises cover the rest.
- Cut at 3 to 3.5 inches in summer, the height that shades out weeds and gets through a dry July without going brown.
- Sharp blades, changed on a schedule, so the grass is cut, not torn. Torn tips go white and invite disease.
- Alternating pattern each week, so wheel ruts never set in and the stripes look even.
- Trimmer around trees, posts, fences and beds. Edger along the walkway and the driveway, every visit, not once a month.
- Hard surfaces blown clean. Clippings mulched back into the lawn unless you ask us to bag them.
- We skip a lawn that is too wet to cut without rutting it, tell you why, and come back the next dry day at no extra charge.
- Gates closed, hoses and toys put back where they were. Tell us about dogs and we text before we open the gate.
- A photo of the finished lawn by text when we leave, so you know it is done even when you are at work.
Lawn care across HRM: Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, Sackville, Hammonds Plains
The price depends on the grass area, and the grass area mostly depends on where you live. Details by neighbourhood.
Peninsula and older Dartmouth
Small lots, hedges, narrow side gates. A push mower fits where a rider never will; the sidewalk edge gets done every visit. $55 a visit.
Clayton Park, Bedford, Sackville, Cole Harbour
Medium lawns from the 70s to the 2000s, often sloped at the front. Trimmer work along the retaining wall and the driveway edge. $70 a visit.
Hammonds Plains, Fall River, Timberlea
Large wooded lots. Needles and moss in the shade, and a long driveway to clear in winter. Spring cleanup matters most here. $95 a visit.
Condos and townhouses
A front strip and a shared side yard. Small price, often every two weeks, and we can quote a whole row of units together. $55 a visit.
Reviews
Yardly is new for the 2027 season, so there are no reviews to show yet. After your first visit we ask for one on Google, and real ones go here as they come in.
What you can hold us to
In writing on every invoice. Read the full promises.
You'll meet the same crew, not a call centre
Yardly is the lawn-care arm of ALTERBUILD, the Halifax home-services business that also runs Halifax TV Mounting. The same small crew does your yard every visit, so they know where the sprinkler head is and which gate sticks. You get a text when we are on the way and a photo of the finished lawn when we leave. Lawn care in Halifax: questions before you book
How much does lawn care cost in Halifax?
Weekly mowing is $55 a visit for a small lawn, $70 for medium, $95 for large and from $125 for extra large, with trimming, edging and blow-off included. Spring cleanup is $199 to $379, fall cleanup $229 to $429, and monthly plans $99 to $329 a month. The calculator above gives the exact number, and the 2027 price guide has every add-on and worked examples with HST.
What counts as a small, medium or large lawn?
Grass area only, not the lot. Small is up to 3,000 square feet, about the front and back of a peninsula or older Dartmouth lot. Medium is 3,000 to 6,000, the usual Clayton Park, Cole Harbour, Sackville or Bedford yard. Large is 6,000 to 10,000, common in Hammonds Plains, Fall River and Timberlea. We measure on the property map before the first visit and tell you if your pick was off.
What is included in a mowing visit?
The cut at 3 to 3.5 inches, trimming around everything the mower cannot reach, edging along the walkway and driveway, hard surfaces blown clean, clippings mulched or bagged, gates closed, and a photo by text when we leave.
Weekly or every two weeks?
Weekly from May to October is what keeps a lawn looking cut all the time, and it is the base price. Every two weeks works for slow, shady lawns and costs $15 more a visit because the grass is twice as long. In the peak growth of late May and June, two-week lawns can look rough by the end of the gap.
What are the monthly plans?
Three levels, each in 12 equal payments. Lawn is 22 weekly cuts with edges, from $99 a month. Lawn + Seasons adds the spring cleanup, two fall cleanups and the fertilizer program, from $149. Everything adds the driveway, walkway and steps cleared after every snowfall of 5 cm or more, from $209. The total is the same as booking each service on its own; nothing is added for paying monthly, and the price is fixed for the year. Every plan, month by month.
Do you clear snow?
Yes. It is part of the Everything plan, or a season contract on its own from $649 for a one-car driveway, December 1 to March 31. We clear after every snowfall of 5 cm or more and start as soon as the snow stops. Ice melt on the steps and walkway is available on request.
What happens when it rains?
We do not cut a lawn that is too wet to cut cleanly; it ruts and the clippings clump. Your visit moves to the next dry day, we text you the new time, and you are never charged for a skipped visit. On a plan the monthly price does not change.
Do I need to be home?
No. Leave the gate unlocked on your day, keep dogs inside, and move toys, hoses and furniture off the grass if you can. We text when we are on the way and send a photo when we are done. For the first visit we like to meet you once if it is easy.
Do you bag the clippings?
By default we mulch them back into the lawn, which feeds it and leaves nothing to haul. If you prefer them bagged, say so when you book and we take the bags away. Leaves in fall are always removed.
Do you spray for weeds?
No. Nova Scotia restricts cosmetic pesticides on lawns, so nobody can legally spray the usual weed killers on your grass. What works instead is thick grass: cut high, aerated, overseeded and fed. That is why aeration, overseeding and the fertilizer program are on the list.
How do I pay?
After each visit by e-Transfer or card, from the invoice we text you. On a plan, one payment a month by card or e-Transfer. No deposit, ever.
Can I skip a week or cancel?
Per-visit mowing has no contract. Text us by 6pm the day before to skip a week. Plans run 12 months at a fixed price and can be paused or cancelled with 30 days' notice; you pay only for the months you had.
When does the season start?
Spring cleanups start in mid-April once the ground is firm enough not to rut. Weekly mowing starts in early May and runs to late October. Fall cleanups are late October and November. Snow clearing is December 1 to March 31. Book now and you are on the route from day one.
