Lawn Mowing in Halifax: Weekly, Edges Included, from $55 a Visit
Updated: November 2026
Lawn mowing in Halifax with Yardly costs $55 a visit for a small lawn (up to 3,000 sq ft), $70 for medium, $95 for large and from $125 for extra large, weekly from May to October. Every visit includes the cut, trimming, edging along walkways and the driveway, and blowing off hard surfaces. Every two weeks is $15 more a visit. No deposit, pay after each visit, prices before HST.
What a mowing visit includes
- The cut at 3 to 3.5 inches in summer, alternating pattern each week so wheel ruts never set in.
- Trimming around trees, posts, fences, the shed and the beds, everywhere the mower cannot reach.
- Edging along the walkway and the driveway, every visit, so the line stays crisp instead of creeping over the concrete.
- Blow-off of the walkway, steps, driveway and patio. Nothing green left on anything grey.
- Clippings mulched back into the lawn, or bagged and taken away if you prefer.
- Gates closed, hoses and toys put back, and a photo of the finished lawn by text when we leave.
What lawn mowing costs in Halifax
The price is by grass area, not lot size, and it is the same in every part of HRM with no travel fee. Weekly from early May to late October, about 22 visits.
| Lawn size | Grass area | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Small | up to 3,000 sq ft | $55 a visit |
| Medium | 3,000 to 6,000 sq ft | $70 a visit |
| Large | 6,000 to 10,000 sq ft | $95 a visit |
| Extra large | over 10,000 sq ft | from $125 a visit |
Every two weeks: $15 more a visit, because the grass is twice as long and the cut takes longer. Prices before HST. $70 a visit is $79.80 with HST.
Not sure which size you are? Most peninsula and older Dartmouth lots are small, most Clayton Park, Cole Harbour, Sackville and Bedford lawns are medium, and Hammonds Plains, Fall River and Timberlea lots are usually large. The price guide shows how to measure in two minutes with Google Maps, and we confirm the size from the property map before the first visit anyway.
Weekly or every two weeks?
Weekly is the base price and the one we recommend from May to July, when Halifax grass can grow an inch in four days. You take off a third of the blade at most, the lawn never looks shaggy, and the clippings are short enough to mulch.
Every two weeks suits slow, shady or sandy lawns, and anyone who wants the cost down. It costs $15 more a visit because the grass is longer and often has to be cut twice or bagged. In late May and June a two-week lawn can look rough by the end of the gap; from August on it is usually fine. You can switch between the two by text at any time.
How we cut
Three inches is the shortest we go on a normal lawn, 3.5 in July and August. Tall grass shades the soil, keeps the roots cool, and crowds out crabgrass and dandelions, which matters in Nova Scotia because nobody can legally spray them. Short-cut lawns are the ones that go brown in a dry July.
Blades are sharpened on a schedule. A dull blade tears the grass instead of cutting it, the tips go white two days later, and the lawn looks grey from the road. We change the mowing direction every week, trim before we mow so the clippings get mulched, and edge the hard surfaces with an edger, not a trimmer held sideways, so the line is vertical and clean.
If the lawn is too wet, we skip it and come back the next dry day. If something is hidden in long grass, a hose, a sprinkler head, a toy, we walk the lawn first, but tell us about anything buried, like an irrigation line or a dog fence wire, so we can mark it.
What you do
- Pick your weekday. We keep it for the season, so you always know when we are coming.
- Leave the gate unlocked on that day, or give us a code.
- Dogs inside, toys, hoses and furniture off the grass if you can. If not, we move them and put them back.
- Pay after each visit from the invoice we text you: e-Transfer or card. No deposit.
Skipping a week or stopping
No contract on per-visit mowing. Text us by 6pm the day before to skip a week, for a party, a sprinkler repair, or because the lawn has not grown. Stop any time. If you would rather not think about it at all, the Lawn plan spreads the season over 12 equal payments, and the Lawn + Seasons and Everything plans add the cleanups, fertilizer and winter snow for the same prices as booking them one by one.
Questions about mowing
Do you mow in the rain?
Light drizzle, yes. A lawn too wet to cut cleanly ruts under the mower and the clippings clump, so we move the visit to the next dry day, text you the new time, and you are never charged for a skipped one.
Do I need to be home?
No. Leave the gate unlocked on your day, keep dogs inside and move anything off the grass that you can. We text when we are on the way and send a photo of the finished lawn when we leave.
Can you bag the clippings?
Yes. By default they are mulched back into the lawn, which feeds it. If you want them bagged and taken away, say so when you book; there is no charge for it on a weekly visit.
What if my lawn is bigger than I thought?
We check the grass area on the property map before the first visit and tell you if your pick was off. If something only shows up on site, we tell you before we start, never on the invoice.
Can I start mid-season?
Yes, any week from May to October. The price is per visit, so a lawn that joins in July pays only for the visits it gets. If the grass is long on the first visit, that one is priced as an every-two-weeks cut, $15 more.
